1956 – 2015

AUBURN — Linda M. Hampshire, 59, a resident of Lewiston passed away on Friday, Nov. 27, at the Hospice House with her daughter at her side.

She was born in Boston, Mass., on Oct. 26, 1956, a daughter of the late Russell M. and Josephine V. (O’Leary) Hampshire. Linda was educated in Boston schools and had been a resident of the Lewiston-Auburn community for the last 20 years.

She has worked in health care her whole life and while living in the Boston area, Linda lived in the family home in Hyde Park and worked as a nurse’s aide in Boston-area nursing homes. When she moved to Maine, she continued working as a CNA until her daughter was born so she could be a stay-at-home mom.

She attended the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul and was a member of the Ladies’ Auxilliary of the William J. Rogers American Legion Post No. 153 in New Auburn. Linda was especially proud of her Mic-Mac Tribe Native American heritage and of the several years that she did some hand and hat modeling. In her younger years, she was also friends with Steven Tyler, lead singer of the band Aerosmith. Among Linda’s favorite enjoyments were listening to Jason Aldean’s country music, watching Lifetime movies, going out to eat, being a mom, hot air balloons and attending the Great Falls Balloon Festival, as well as the Feztival of Trees. As was evidenced by her career choice in nursing, she derived great joy in helping and comforting people, but most of all she enjoyed special times with her daughter Bridget and the company of her cat, Twix.

Linda was a loving, devoted and hardworking mother and friend who will be dearly missed. She leaves behind her daughter, Bridget Burke of Lewiston; her brother (and “Irish Twin”), Francis of Massachusetts; and two sisters, Kimberly and Maria, also of Massachusetts; lifelong friend, Daniel Lavoie of Auburn; four close friends, Abbie Niemi of Lisbon, Tina Ouellette of Lewiston, Elizabeth Byble also of Lewiston and Jake Salada of New Hampshire.
