WILTON — The public will have a chance to weigh in on the future cleanup of the former Forster Manufacturing mill at a hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Town Office.
The hearing will be at the start of the Board of Selectpersons regular meeting.
As part of the three applications for Environmental Protection Agency Brownfield grants, a public hearing is needed. Public comments must be included in the application, Town Manager Rhonda Irish previously told the board.
For an application amount of $600,000, applications must be submitted by Dec. 18. This amount, if received, will not cover everything needed to clear the site and will pay for remediation of harmful materials such as asbestos, she said.
Recommendations for the cleanup and remediation will be explained during the hearing. More testing of the roof was expected to take place earlier this month. Previous concerns about asbestos in the roof prompted the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to request the testing, she said.
Residents living near the mill site and parents of children who walk by the site to school are especially invited to come because they will be affected by the cleanup process, she said.
