David Breard, 75 years old, keeper of a popped corn and candy shop in the basement, 2 Cedar street, Lewiston, was the object of an attempted robbery Saturday night at 8.30, by a youth who wore a white bag over his head and carried a long stick in his hand. Breard grappled and wrested the stick from the fellow and tore the bag from his head. Monday he swore out a warrant charging attempted robbery. Breard, altho 75 years old, says he was able to take care of himself when the methods are as crude as adopted Saturday. He ordered the person out of his store earlier and heard him suggest to two boys that they “get the old man’s cigarettes and money.”

You can write off another 18-0 performance by Lewiston High School this season, but not the Blue Devils’ immediate future — that still looks quite promising. The Blue Devils lost to Portland High School, 68-60, in a Southern Maine Activities Association boys’ basketball opener Friday night before a boisterous crowd of 300. But, while another undefeated season for the Devils is out of the question, a solid season for them is certainly not.
