Public dinner Saturday, Sunday
AUBURN — Sacred Heart Church will host two ham and pork dinners with all the fixings at 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 and 6, off Western Avenue.
Tickets may be purchased at the door for a family style dinner.
Profits of the dinners will be used to help defray costs associated with the renovations that are currently in process.
Blood drive set for Dec. 10
WINTHROP — A community blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at the St. Francis Xavier Parish Hall on Route 133.
The drive is open to all qualifying donors. A form of identification will be required.

Pine Cone Chapter to meet
AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. The chapter will celebrate Christmas at 6 p.m. with a potluck supper. A meeting will follow at 7 p.m.
The chapter has the traveling emblem for District 4 “Arky.”
All Eastern Star members are welcome and are asked to bring Christmas stockings to give to Officer Poulin from the Auburn Police Department. Members who cannot make the meeting but want to donate a stocking should call Betty Perkins at 207-784-9485.
Open Mic & Poetry Slam Dec. 11
AUBURN — The Pleasant Note Coffeehouse will present Open Mic & Poetry Slam at the First Universalist Church of Auburn, 169 Pleasant St., at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11.
Since 2006, this free monthly show has drawn people of all ages who share the spirituality of music and spoken word.

CUMC hosting bean, casserole supper
LEWISTON — The Calvary United Methodist Church will host its monthly baked bean and casserole supper Saturday, Dec. 12.
Serving time will be 4:45 p.m. at the Bartlett Street Garden entrance.
Cost of the meal is $7.50 for adults and $3 for children.
The menu will include assorted baked beans, hot dogs, biscuits, casseroles (including vegetarian), salads and homemade pies.
Pickwick Club to meet
AUBURN — The Pickwick Club, Maine’s Dickens’ reading and discussion group, will meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Auburn Library, its sponsor.
The discussion will explore a Victorian masterpiece “William Makepeace Thackeray’s ‘Vanity Fair,’ Chapters 35 to 67.”
Dick York will moderate.

Bridge club lists winners
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners on Nov. 30 were, first, Les Buzzell and Thomas Goodwin; second, Paul Mitnik and Paul Sherman; third, Hazel Glazier and Dick Allen; fourth, Nancy Farmer and Luke Merry; first in C, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe.
Winners on Dec. 1 were, first, Sharron Hinckley and Fred Letourneau; second, Jan and Vern Arey; third, Pat Garcia and David Lock; fourth, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn.
Top masterpoint winners in November were Les Buzzell, Paul Sherman, David Lock, Marta Clements, Larry Fortier, Roger Labbe, Hazel Glazier, Fred Letourneau, Rosemarie Goodwin, and Jeanine Kivus.
Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and Tuesdays in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. A partner is always guaranteed and all bridge players are welcomed.
