CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Two men were charged with stealing electronics and ski equipment from Black Bear Condos on Saturday, after police followed their footprints in the snow to a condo where they were staying, Carrabassett Valley police officer Rick Billian said.

Shawn Anthony, 18, of Freeport and Rene Mesones, 20, of North Yarmouth each face a felony charge of burglary and a misdemeanor charge of theft, Billian said.

An estimated $2,200 worth of items were taken from four condominiums, Billian said Monday. The items, which included electronics and ski equipment, have been recovered by police.

No one was home at three of the condos. At the fourth one, the two forced their way in at about 4 a.m. and woke up a dog who woke the owners. The two men fled to a condo where they were staying, Billian said.

Carrabassett Valley police officer Troy Reed, Billian and Police Chief Mark Lopez followed tracks in the snow to a condo where they found the stolen property, Billian said.

The owners have been contacted and police are continuing the investigation with an inventory of items provided by owners.

Anthony and Mesones were arrested and taken to Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington.

Anthony was released Saturday on $5,000 cash bail. Mesones was released Monday on $1,000 cash bail, according to a corrections officer.
