‘What is NAMI’ presentation

RUMFORD — The new NAMI affiliate, NAMI Western Mountains, will host a “What is NAMI?” presentation and membership opportunity from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Beacon House, 3 Canal St.

The Western Mountains affiliate encompasses Oxford and Franklin County communities. Area affiliates exist to provide awareness, support, advocacy and education of mental illness and bring NAMI programs to help meet mental health needs to the local level.

The presentation will show how to help make life better for individuals, families, friends and caregivers affected by mental health issues, for yourself, a family member, a co-worker or friend.

There will be free refreshments.

Responsible Pet Care open house

PARIS — The annual Christmas open house at the Responsible Pet Care Shelter and Adoption Center will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12 and 13, at 9 Swallow Road.

Visitors can meet the cats and dogs and see recent renovations. There will be raffles, door prizes and refreshments. 

The shelter will be accepting donations, which it depends on to assist in the care of the animals.

Community luncheon Dec. 12

FARMINGTON — The Old South First Congregational Church will serve its monthly free community luncheon at noon Saturday, Dec. 12, at 227 Main St.

The menu consists of baked ham, macaroni and cheese, peas and cake.

The Mt. Blue Chamber Singers, accompanied by Patricia Hayden, will perform.

Tuts Pay It Forward Extravaganza

HARRISON — Tuts Pay It Forward Extravaganza will take place from 4:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Dec. 12, at VFW Post 9328, 176 Waterford Road.

The event includes a spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 6 p.m., an auction from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and live entertainment from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.

Entertainment will be provided by Fishbowl, The Milltown Roadshow and Bob Dow.

Cost is $15 per person and $5 for ages 12 and under.

Proceeds will help a local family purchase Melby’s Market and change it back to Tuts.

Kids to shop at Santa’s Workshop

WILTON — Santa’s Workshop will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 59 High St.

Annually, on the second Saturday in December, St. Luke’s provides area children with an affordable alternative for gift shopping during the holidays. Adults can enjoy complimentary refreshments in “Santa’s Kitchen” while youth shop for new and gently used items to give loved ones.

No items are priced at more than $1, and kids receive free custom gift-wrapping before leaving Santa’s Workshop.

Homemakers to hold party

CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Town Christmas Party will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Chesterville Town Office on the Dutch Gap Road.

There will be cookie decorating, stories, music, gifts for children to pick out for their parents, cookies, cupcakes, popcorn balls, cocoa, punch, and of course and a visit from Santa who will arrive on the fire truck.

RUMFORD — The Daughters of Isabella, St. Timothy Circle No. 504, will host its annual Christmas Party after Mass on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 49 Franklin St.

United Methodist Church hosting Christmas event

NEW SHARON — The New Sharon United Methodist Church will host carols, cookies and cocoa from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13.

This free event will include choir numbers from previous cantatas performed in the past, solos and duets, guitar playing, and congregation singing of favorite carols of the season.

After a short program, cookies and bars will be enjoyed in the dining room along with hot chocolate, coffee or tea. The community is invited to attend.

Ham dinner set for Dec. 13

NEW SHARON — A public ham dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Masonic Lodge.

All proceeds will benefit the Food Pantries of Industry and Fairbanks.

It will be followed by a pot luck supper.

Breakfast with Santa Claus

PARIS — Breakfast with Santa will take place from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at VFW Post 9787, 58 Main St.

Cost is $8 for adults and free for children 12 and younger. Pictures with Santa will be free.

Breakfast consists of scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, coffee cake, coffee, juices and milk.

The event is hosted by Amvets Post 777.
