CHESTERVILLE — Christmas is just around the corner and organizers of the first Annual Family Christmas Dinner — a free community event — invite the public to join them for dinner on Christmas day.

The meal will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 25, at the Chesterville Town Hall, 409 Dutch Gap Road.

A traditional Christmas meal of ham, mashed potatoes, squash, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls and pies will be served family style, Arleen Maselli, said.

Hot meals will be delivered to those who are homebound, she said.

To reserve a meal for delivery within the RSU 9 area, call 207-778-6520. Free transportation can also be arranged for those who might otherwise be unable to attend.

This dinner is for anyone who is alone on Christmas; anyone who cannot do a meal; or for those who just want to be with a wonderful group of people. Santa will be visiting us for dinner as well. Guests may make reservations by calling Maselli.

To make this happen, organizers Amanda Beane and Maselli are also looking for volunteers to help.

“Giving back to the community is one of the most rewarding, humbling experiences,” Maselli said. “Start a new tradition with your friends and family by volunteering this holiday season for our first Annual Family Christmas Dinner.”

Volunteers are needed to help serve a traditional Christmas meal of ham with all the fixings and pie. Volunteers are also needed to assist with delivery of meals to homebound community members and help transport guests who would otherwise be unable to attend.

Other opportunties to volunteer also include set up, clean up, waiting tables, meal preparation, baking and cooking, among other jobs.
