1922 – 2015

AUBURN — Catherine A. Howard, 93, longtime resident of Lewiston, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 12, at Clover Health Care, where she had been residing.

She was born Nov. 17,1922, on Westrose Hill in Lewiston, daughter to Joseph J. and Margaret E. (O’Brien) Howard Sr. Educated in Lewiston schools, she received an advanced degree in education from the University of Maine in Orono, as well as credits from Harvard University.

She was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Church, then she had also volunteered within the Prince of Peace community with the parish special education for children with learning disabilities, as well as for area federal education programs.

Catherine taught kindergarten in the Lewiston school system for 30 years.

After retirement, she enjoyed world travel.

Surviving is a sister-in-law, Joseph J. Howard Jr.; three nieces, Diane E. M. Howard, Mary H. Briner, and Katherine Hamman; four grandnieces and two grandnephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Joseph J. Howard Jr.; a nephew, John J. Howard; one grandnephew and one grandniece.
