PORTLAND — Blue and The Portland Comedy Co-op will present “An Evening with Barry Crimmins.” The Boston comedy legend will bring his “No Hero” tour to Portland, Monday, Dec. 28.
Crimmins is a former Air America Radio writer and correspondent, internationally renowned political satirist and author of the acclaimed book “Never Shake Hands With A War Criminal.” Most recently he was the subject of the acclaimed documentary directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, “Call Me Lucky.”
The Boston Herald has described Crimmins as “…the patron saint of original, creative comedy in Boston and a brooding ideologue. His wit is as sharp as his sense of social justice, which has been known to eclipse a joke or two. But his hour-plus show, ‘Chicken Soup for the Vegetarian Soul’, served as a persuasive example of what intelligent stand-up comedy, politically themed or otherwise, can be.”
As special as it is to see Crimmins anytime, his election-year performances are exceptional. After months of inundation with campaign ads, stump speeches and media hot air, nothing scratches the pesky political itch better than Crimmins’ well-reasoned and just plain funny responses to political conventional wisdom.
The show will be hosted by Aharon Hebert, Portland Comedy Co-op member and creator of the “Worst Day of the Week” comedy series at Blue.
Tickets cost $12 online at www.barrycrimminsatblue.bpt.me and $15 the night of the show. Show starts at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7. Blue is located at 650 Congress St.
