1937 – 2015
LEWISTON — Sylvia “Sally” J. McCarthy, 78, of Sabattus, died on Thursday, Dec. 10, at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Lisbon Falls on March 7, 1937, the daughter of the late Charles and Mildred (Greene) Dugas. She was educated in Lisbon schools and was a graduate of Lisbon High School Class of 1955.
She married Joseph L. McCarthy Sr. She was employed in local banks for a total of 40 years and was a teller and an administrative secretary for Fleet Bank for 23 years, having retired in 2002.
Sally taught catechism from 1977 to 1981 at St. Anne’s Parish in Lisbon. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church and most recently a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus and a member of the Lisbon Historical Society.
Sally loved cats and always had one. She enjoyed visiting family in California, and when her sons were young enjoyed taking them to Disney Land.
She is survived by two sons, Kevin McCarthy and Joseph L. McCarthy Jr. and his wife, Lisa; a grandson, Joseph McCarthy III; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Lydia; a sister, Bev Mobbs of California; two nephews in California; two great-nieces, Shirley Garrett of Portsmouth, N.H., and Dawn King of Lisbon; and three cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, David Dugas; and by a niece, Jen Mobbs.
