OXFORD – Anderson Staples American Legion Post 112 will be hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Legion’s headquarters, 169 King Street in Oxford.

This is one of the busiest times of year with traveling to family celebrations, attending festivities and of course Christmas shopping and it is also a challenging time of year for the Red Cross to ensure blood is available.

This will be the last drive until spring and it will be the last opportunity to receive a one-year free membership in the Anderson Staples American Legion Post for eligible veterans donating blood.

Donors of all blood types – especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative – are needed to help ensure blood is available for patients.

Although walk-ins are accepted, the Red Cross suggests making an appointment by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
