Within a few weeks two new public time pieces will, thru the progressiveness of the First National Bank of Auburn and the Lewiston Trust Co., be placed in position on the streets of these two cities. Both of these banks have given orders for handsome large clocks, which are to be placed in front of their quarters, and which, in addition to being great public conveniences, will add to the good looks of the streets. These clocks will have 30-inch dials, and will be of very ornamental design. They will ring chimes on each quarter of an hour and strike the hours. Over the top of each clock will be placed the bank’s name.

“Moonlit Trails” was the theme of the annual Christmas Formal staged Saturday evening at Lewiston Memorial Armory by Alpha Beta Gamma Sorority of Lewiston and Theta Sigma Phi Sorority of Auburn. Carrying out the theme were the appropriate decorations, including a sleigh with two mannequins in ski togs in the center of the dance floor, surrounded by Christmas trees, and a stage mural depicting a moonlit mountain with skiers. A canopy of blue and gold streamers covered the dance floor, with a moon and stars suspended from the center. Attendance was large at this event, so popular with the young people of the Twin Cities.

If you drink too much over the holidays, please don’t drive; instead, call a tow truck, the latest in free taxi service. Twenty-five tow truck companies, members of the Androscoggin Towing & Safety Association, are participating in a national campaign — T.O.W.E.D. — sponsored by Century, a major manufacturer of towing and recovery equipment. T.O.W.E.D. stands for Towing Operators Working to Eliminate Drunk Driving, according to Burnie Eveleth, president of the association. “If you’re in a bar, or at a party, and someone says you shouldn’t drive, we’ll take the person and the car home at no charge,” explained Eveleth.
