BUCKFIELD — Aaron Rowe scored a game-high 14 points to lead Buckfield to a 53-44 victory over Sacopee Valley in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Bucks (3-3) kept Sacopee Valley contained to four points in the third quarter, improving to 36-21 before the final frame. Jake Kraske added 12 points for Buckfield.
Cameron Cyr led the Hawkes (0-6) with 13 points, while Brandon Sloan chipped in with another 10 points for Sacopee Valley.
Girls’ basketball
Yarmouth 28, Poland 24
POLAND — Cory Langenbach scored a team-leading eight points to lead Yarmouth to a 28-24 victory over Poland in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Knights (3-3) led 12-9 at the half despite scoring no points in the second quarter. Sarah Bolduc tossed three field goals, including two from three-point range for Poland.
The Clippers (3-5) rallied in the fourth quarter with a 14-6 run to stage the come-from-behind win.
Sacopee Valley 50, Buckfield 38
BUCKFIELD — Senior guard Abby Hughes drained a team-high 12 points in a balanced attack as Sacopee Valley notched a 50-38 victory over Buckfield in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks (3-3) pulled away in the second quarter for a 24-13 halftime lead. Junior forward Haiden Sawyer contributed nine points for Sacopee Valley.
Senior forward Ashley Campbell compiled a game-high 15 points for the Bucks (2-5) in the losing effort.
Boys’ hockey
St. Dom’s 8, Portland/Deering 2
PORTLAND — Junior left wing Noah Toussaint netted a hat trick to lead St. Dom’s to an 8-2 triumph over Portland/Deering in boys’ hockey action Saturday evening.
Isaac LaPointe contributed two goals and an assist, while Reese Farrell posted three assists for the Saints (2-2).
Goalie Ridge Servidio made 13 saves for St. Dom’s.
Gipper’s Holiday Classic
Edward Little 4, Leavitt 2
AUBURN — The Red Eddies scored three unanswered goals in the first period played tough to win the 22nd Annual Gipper’s Holiday Classic 4-2 over Leavitt at the Norway Savings Bank Arena.
The Red Eddies provided an action packed game in the championship matchup. Junior forward Colby Bilodeau provided a pair of assists in the contest.
Forward Joe Bauman recorded a goal and an assist for the Hornets. Goalie Dakota Soucy made 24 saves for Leavitt, while goalie Ben Feldman stopped 19 to earn the win in net for Edward Little.
Girls’ hockey
St. Dom’s 11, Portland/Deering 1
PORTLAND — Freshman forward Bugsy Hammerton scored a hat trick as St. Dom’s cruised to an 11-1 victory over Portland/Deering in girls’ hockey action Saturday evening.
The Saints (5-0) jumped out on top with six goals in the first period. Isabelle Frenette and Avery Lutrzykowski netted two goals each, while Kristina Cornelio contributed four assists for St. Dom’s.
Sophie Leavitt scored the Bulldogs’ lone goal in the waning minutes of the game to spoil the shutout.
Men’s basketball
Fordham 70, UMaine 53
BRONX, N.Y. — Kevin Little matched his career-high with 25 points despite the University of Maine dropping a 70-53 decision to Fordham on Saturday afternoon.
Little tied his career-high of 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting, going 4-for-7 from behind the arc, and added four rebounds and four steals.
Devine Eke narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine boards to go along with a pair of blocks.
Fordham won the reobunds battle by a 43-30 margin and were led by Joseph Chartouny’s 21 points and seven rebounds.
The loss slips Maine back to 2-8 while Fordham picks up its ninth-straight win to improve to 9-1.
