It is quite disturbing to hear about the ongoing abuses perpetrated by welfare recipients (“Welfare recipients gamble on lottery,” Sun Journal, Dec. 16).

They are, however, not in this alone. The merchants who accept their welfare cards for things besides rent, food and day care need to be investigated and dealt with.

The list of abuses is lengthy and ridiculous. As a taxpayer, I feel violated.
