1918 – 2015
CANTON — Mildred Vickery Long, 97, of Madrid Township, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 20, at the Victorian Villa in Canton.
Mildred was born in Auburn on Dec. 5, 1918, to Mildred (Parsons) and Robert Vickery. She married Albion Long on May 8, 1938, at her grandparents’ farm on Maple Hill in Auburn. They were together for 61 years before he passed away. She then went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Douglas Hardy.
Mildred was very proud of her five-generation family. They meant the world to her and it was so very sad to watch her dementia erase them from her memory one by one. We were so fortunate in the wonderful and loving care Mildred received in the last years of her life at the Victorian Villa in Canton. The Villa and Beacon Hospice staff provided us all with the support we needed to deal with this heartbreaking disease.
Mildred is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Douglas Hardy of Madrid Township; her grandson and his wife, Brian and Sherri Hardy of Turner; her great-grandson and his wife, Brandon and Terri Hardy of Somersworth, N.H.; her great-granddaughter and her husband, Erin and Raymond Cote Jr. of Livermore; and her four great-great-grandchildren, Alexis Rae Cote and Kelbe Tyler Cote of Livermore, and Charles Douglas Hardy and Lila Marie Hardy of Somersworth, N.H.
Mildred was predeceased by her son, Merritt David Long, on Feb. 25, 1955; and her husband, Al, on March 2, 2000.
