CARTHAGE — Edwin L. Pulk Sr., 86, of Carthage, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 20, at his home.
He was born in Lisbon on April 12, 1929, the son of Melvin and Alice Pulk. He attended schools in Maine and New York. As a young man, he worked at American Window Glass in Pennsylvania and also served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a crewman for the USS Alstede. He also worked on the MCRR before retiring after 30 years and was a part-time wood cutter.
Edwin was a member of the American Legion Post No. 203 in Weld and was a past master of Webb River Grange and Alexander Grange. He enjoyed seeing veterans march in parades, was a volunteer driver for veterans and was always willing to help people.
Edwin is survived by his four daughters, Judith Wardwell and husband, Carl, of Wilton; Edna Smith and her husband, Charles, of Carthage; Patricia Clark of Carthage; and Yvonne Melcher and husband, Mike, of Carthage; six sons, William Pulk and wife, Kelly, of Carthage; Edwin Pulk II and wife, Jacqueline, of Carthage; Timothy Pulk and wife, Dalene, of Carthage; Bruce Pulk and wife, Peggy, of Mexico; Frances Pulk and companion, Kathy, of Rumford; and Lloyd Pulk of Ellsworth; 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary “Betty” Houghton of Carthage and Carrie Hardin of New Brunswick; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his son, George Pulk; his brother Floyd; and his sister, Beverly White.
