1916 – 2015

LEWISTON — Ida A. Dumais, 99, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at d’Youville Pavilion on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 17, 1916, the daughter of the late Charles and Corinne (Desrochers) Roux.

Ida grew up in Lewiston, attended Lewiston schools and was a member of this community all of her life.

On Sept. 8, 1945, she married Alphonse L. Dumais and together they raised two daughters, Lorraine and Joan.

Her employment included Knapp Shoe and she later worked for Bates College in the food service department.

She was a member of Ladies of St. Anne’s and the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul Parish.

Ida is survived by one daughter, Joan Blais and her husband, Roger, of Auburn; a son-in-law, Michael Varle of Sabattus; five grandchildren, Theresa Brousseau and her husband, Paul, of Lewiston; Jeffrey Blais of Tokyo, Japan; Michelle Brown and her fiancé, Jeffrey Ritchie, of Sabattus; Kimberly Lebrasseur and her husband, Robert, of Sabattus; and Paul Varle and his wife, Emilie, of Lewiston; seven great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Levi Brousseau, Deanna Brown, Nicholas and Abrielle Levasseur and Andrew and Alexander Varle.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse Dumais on April 27, 2002; and by her daughter, Lorraine Varle on April 3, 2008.
