PLACIDA, Fla. — Maynard L. Farren, retired General Electric executive, died on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y. He was 89 years old.

Born Feb. 18, 1926, in Lewiston, he was the son of the late Maynard V. and Virginia (Leach) Farren. He graduated from Auburn public school.

He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1945 and served as a deck officer for three years in the U.S. Maritime Service. He also was a Lt. j.g. in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Upon discharge, he was employed by the New England Telephone Company as a central office equipment installer. In 1950 he entered Bentley College and was very active in student activities. He was elected president of Kappa Pi Alpha, an honor fraternity, in his senior year. Upon graduation in 1952 he joined General Electric Company’s Financial Management Program in Schenectady, N.Y. He held several financial management assignments in Schenectady including business manager for General Electric Broadcasting Company (WGY & WRGB) and manager cash operations for GE Corporate Treasury. In 1976 he was transferred to GE Corporate Treasury headquarters in New York City as manager banking which involved management of company-wide banking activities and cash management. In 1981 he returned to Schenectady as manager-share owner communications and retired March 1986.

He was a former board member of the Broadcasting Financial Management Association and the Schenectady, N.Y., YMCA. He was also a board member and treasurer of Charvale Pool in Charlton, N.Y. and board member of Hickory Hill Ski Club in Warrensburg, N.Y. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol for many years. In recent years he was a member of the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association. He was a member of Cumberland Masonic Lodge in New Gloucester; the Scottish Rite, Valley of Schenectady, N.Y.; the Shrine Sahib Temple in Sarasota, Fla. and the Englewood Shrine Club of Englewood, Fla. He was a member of the Burnt Hills Methodist Church in Burnt Hills, N.Y.

He was the husband of the late Janice (White) Farren, who died in 2009.

He is survived by two sons, Donald W. Farren of Placida, Fla. and Brian V. Farren of Sparks, Nev.; four grandchildren, Lyle, Lauren, Emily and Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Emma Rose and William.
