BANGOR — Maxine C. Given, 86, of Jay and Hudson, died Thursday, Dec. 24, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor.
She was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Wilton, the daughter of Walter Cushman and Laura Adeline (Bickford) Cushman. She attended Wilton Academy.
On November 25, 1948, she married Richard “John” Given; they made their home and raised their family in Jay. He passed away Nov. 10, 1999.
She worked at Norwalk Shoe for several years and later ran a day care out of her home. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, bingo and cards, but especially loved the time spent with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Jackson and her husband, Richard, of Jay; and Joanne Morin and her husband, Norman “Champ,” of Hudson; her son, John Given and his wife, Jennifer, of Berlin, N.H.; six grandchildren, Stacy Gagnon, Heather Barrows, Stephen Given, Russell Jackson, Emily Clement and Ashley Given; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Gagnon, Shawn Gagnon, Austin Welch and Chloe Clement; and great-great-grandson, Aden Gagnon; five sisters, Barbara Wardwell of Wilton; Marie Thompson and her husband, “Skip”, of North Jay, Mary Hyde of Farmington, Jeannette Dunham and her husband, Wilfred, of Farmington and Kathleen Brackey and her husband, Robert, of Strong; two brothers, Ronald Cushman and his wife, Linda, and Leland Cushman and wife, Sandy, all of Wilton; brothers-in-law, Anthanase Couture and Bert Given and his wife, Joyce, all of Jay; sister-in-law, Irene Given of Chesterville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Herbert Given; granddaughters, Stephanie and Rhonda Jackson; brother, Donald Cushman; and sister, Roberta Brown.
