1938 – 2015

POLAND — Robert Ronald “Bucky” Coutts, 77, of Poland, died Saturday, Dec. 19, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, N.C.

He was born March 29, 1938, in Auburn, to Levi A. Marston and Beryl B. Butterfield Coutts Marston. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1958 and worked for the Auburn Highway Department for 39 years as a foreman.

He was a founding member of the Poland Youth League and won awards for coaching. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing, and hockey games. He was a member of the Sports Hall of Fame for football, received the Auburn Public Works Dedicated Service award, Cub Scoutmaster of the year, Poland, 1973, and multiple ribbon awards for showing steers at fairs.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, A. Matthew Coutts in 1982, James C. Coutts in 2010; and sister-in-law, Joyce Coutts in 2014.

He is survived by his son, Levi A. Coutts of Poland; daughter, Bonnie J. Coutts Coggins and son-in-law, Dexter Coggins, of Tuxedo, N.C.; brother, Carl B. Coutts of Holden; sister, Luann C. Burns and Robert Burns of Auburn; special friend, Dolly Eastman of Auburn; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
