DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Wednesday, Dec. 9, myself and three other ladies, all seniors, were dining at China Village Restaurant in Dry Mills and had finished our meals and were preparing to pay our checks when the waitress told us that our entire meals had been paid for by the lady sitting across from us. We were stunned but most grateful. After many hugs and thanks to her, she left. If you are out there, we will, as they say, “Pay it forward.” Again, our many thanks. — Four grateful ladies.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My wife was a piano teacher in the Lewiston-Auburn area for many years. She acquired dozens of piano sheet music dealing with teaching piano to young students and adults and also general piano music. I have eight heavy boxes of piano music and one box of opera vocal sheet music as she was also a voice coach, to donate to a piano teacher or school, etc. Only serious musicians or schools need respond. Thank you. Call 207-784-8891.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I believe you have had this question before, but I did not keep the information. Is there someone who can repair rips in a fur coat? Also, can this person cut a fur coat down to a different size? Please call 207-783-3676.

ANSWER: Yes, this question gets asked once or twice a year. Sun Spots knows of no furriers, perhaps a seamstress with an industrial sewing machine could make repairs or resize the coat. When Sun Spots published a similar query from Ron in 2013, a reader replied:  “I buy fur coats to re-purpose into fur boot cuffs. I use an industrial sewing machine and have repaired some of my own furs. I may be able to help Ron. —  Laurie Morin, Lewiston, [email protected], 207-330-1565.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Auburn-based Boy Scout Troop 121 will pick up Christmas trees in the cities of Lewiston and Auburn for disposal. While the cities of Auburn and Lewiston provide locations for free tree disposal, they no longer collect the trees at curbside.

For a minimum donation of $5, the scouts will pick up Christmas trees on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9 and 10. Trees should not be placed curbside until the morning of Jan. 9. Money raised by this program goes directly to Troop 121 scouting activities.

To make a pick-up request, send your donation by Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, to Troop 121, United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave., Auburn, ME 04210. The Troop, in turn, will send you a tag for you to place on your tree when you place it curbside. For more information about this program or the troop, call 207-783-0790 or email [email protected].
