People come here legally from other countries and have children on American soil. People come here illegally and have children. Those children are instant Americans. They know nothing about being American, which means this country is no longer “one nation, under God,” as found in the Pledge of Allegiance.

I was born the son of an immigrant, but my father went by the book and became an American citizen who lived by American rules and laws. He didn’t force his views on anybody. He was proud to say the pledge and proud to be American.

The America he knew was very different from the one I know. How things were done then changed as more people came to this country. Now, America is just a nation — not “one nation, under God” — just a “nation.”

Just who are the Americans that other people in the world talk about for all kinds of stuff? They cannot be talking about all people living on American soil.

Trying to be politically correct in this nation is trying at times. Just recently in the news, a Bangor teacher was told to remove a Christmas tree from her classroom. Although she was allowed to bring it back, I have to wonder why the fuss in the first place? The school officials’ reaction was overblown.

What about city officials? I love to see the town and the city aglow with Christmas decorations — will they be shut off for being politically incorrect?
