FARMINGTON — The first baby born at Franklin Memorial Hospital in 2016 arrived at 12:46 a.m. Jan. 1.

Isiah Norman Daku, son of Levi Daku and Meghan Bitterauf, weighed 9 pounds, 12.7 ounces. He measured 21.5 inches long. Dr. Tara Aumand of Franklin Health Women’s Care attended the birth.

It is the couple’s first child.

Bitterauf’s due date was Dec. 24. Daku said the couple arrived at the hospital at 7 a.m. Dec. 31. 

Daku works at Bath Iron Works and Bitterauf works for Regional School Unit 9.

Isiah’s paternal grandparents are Tom and Janice Daku of Farmington; maternal grandparents are Helmut and Mary Bitterauf, also of Farmington.

In a phone conversation Friday afternoon, Levi Daku said, “We’re excited. He’s a blessing for both of us.”

As the hospital’s first baby of 2016, Isiah’s family will be presented with a Cozy Coupe from the hospital full of donated gifts by area merchants including: a baby bowl and the book “Bunny and Bear” from the Calico Patch; the book “One Green Tree, Ten Chickadees” from Devaney, Doak & Garrett Booksellers; a $25 gift card from Wal-Mart; a crocheted baby outfit from Mary O’Donal; a $25 deposit account certificate from Bangor Savings Bank; and a $25 gift card from Reny’s.
