For a driver who has been drinking, by state law, the limit is .08 percent blood alcohol content. Now lawmakers want to pass a law for people on marijuana, or medical marijuana drivers, to face the same penalties as OUI.

Maine’s big problem is distracted drivers on iPhones, cellphones, putting makeup on and combing their hair. That’s the big problem in Maine.

Distracted drivers, according to national news, are 22 percent more likely to cause an accident than a driver with an alcohol content over .08 percent.

Lawmakers should enforce texting while driving like they do the seatbelt law; put a fine of $500.

Texting while driving, or weaving on the road, or not moving at a green traffic light — that drives me nuts.

Distracted driving is an addiction. Lawmakers should put their foot down and stop this out-of-control texting. People out there are getting killed every day by distracted drivers.
