FARMINGTON — Police said an Oakland man was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after the van he was driving hit a pole next to Lucy Knowles Road and flipped over.

Ryan Given, 27, was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and was in stable condition in late afternoon, police officer Darin Gilbert said.

Police are trying to determine why Given’s van hit the pole after making a right turn from Knowlton Corner Road, Police Chief Jack Peck said. The van flipped and blocked the road shortly after 1 p.m.

Given suffered head and chest injuries, he said.

Lifeflight met NorthStar ambulance at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Farmington Police Department closed a section of the road for a couple of hours while officers investigated.

Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue helped extricate Given from the Safelite AutoGlass van he was driving. Central Maine Power shut off the power at the pole.
