AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced its children’s activities for the month of January.
Sweet Peas: 10:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays, Jan. 4, 11 and 25, in the Children’s Room. Miss Heather will lead a lap-sit program for children ages 24 to 36 months and a parent. Participants will share stories, songs, rhythm instruments, finger plays and flannel board fun on the story quilt.
Pre-School Story Time: 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 6, 13, 20 and 27, in the Children’s Room. Children ages 3-5 (and experienced listeners who are almost 3) may hear stories, sing songs and make a craft.
KIDS! Read to a Dog: 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, in the Children’s Room. Susan Farrell and her dog Addie will visit the library to let children practice their reading skills by reading to Addie. Registration is required for a 15-minute appointment.
KIDS! LEGO Club: 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, in the Maggie Trafton Room. This is a monthly Lego Club for kids ages 5 and older. The library will provide the space and the Legos. Kids just need to come with their ideas and imaginations. Space is limited, so the program will be run on a first-come-first-served basis. This program is not suitable for very young children because there will be small pieces that present a choking hazard.
Sprouts: 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. Saturdays, Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30, in the Children’s Room. This is a rousing lap sit program for babies through 36-months and their caregivers. Participants will gather on the story quilt with Heather to enjoy songs, nursery rhymes and dancing while making new friends. The program runs through May.
DIY Tweens! Make a Duct Tape Bracelet: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, in the Maggie Trafton Program. Tweens ages 9 to 12 are invited to create a duct tape bracelet. All materials will be provided by the library. Space is limited, so registration is required.
KIDS! Saturday Stories: 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, in the Children’s Room. Local volunteer story lady, Judy D’Amour leads children in interactive stories, rhymes, songs, creative dramatics, and a craft on the third Saturday morning of most months through May. This program is best for children from 2 to 6.
KIDS! Explore France: 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, in the Maggie Trafton Room. Children in grades kindergarten through sixth may learn about the library’s newest activity kit on the country of France. This program is part of the “Fun with French” series sponsored by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation. Doris Bonneau will have stories and activities that will help children explore France.
DIY Tweens! Make a Mason Jar Terrarium: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the Maggie Trafton Program Room. Tweens ages 9 to 12 may create a terrarium. All materials will be provided by the library. Space is limited, so registration is required.
KIDS! Winter Stories: 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, in the Maggie Trafton Room. The library will share winter stories as part of the City of Auburn’s Winter Festival. Kids will create a craft and may have hot cocoa and cookies.
KIDS! Free Family Movie-Minions: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, in the Androscoggin Community Room. As part of Auburn’s Winter Festival, the libary will give a free showing of the movie “Minions.” There will be free juice and crackers. Parents must remain with their children during the movie.
The library will be closed Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
