GARDINER (AP) — Police say no one was injured when a motorist collided with the back end of a school bus transporting elementary school students in Kennebec County.

The Kennebec Journal reported (http://bit.ly/1SzhEXj ) that 16 children were onboard when the bus was rear-ended around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday while traveling along U.S. Route 201 in Gardiner.

Police say 57-year-old Michael Welch was apparently blinded by the sun when he struck the bus. The front end of his car ended up underneath the back end of the bus.

Sgt. Stacey Blair says all the children were in their seats at the time of the accident.

The School Administration District 11 bus sustained minor damage. Another bus picked up the students and finished driving the route.

Blair says he doesn’t anticipate charges being filed.
