LEWISTON — More than 100 courses are available in the winter-spring semester at Lewiston Adult Education, including a stand-up comedy workshop, Franco cooking and backyard birding basics.

People can register online at www.lewistonadulted.org, or call the Lewiston Adult Education office at 207-795-4141.

Comedian Harold “Tuck” Tucker of Topsham will teach the stand-up comedy workshop. The final exam will require each member of the class to tell their jokes in front of a crowd at Guthrie’s Restaurant and Café on 115 Middle St. in Lewiston.

The workshop is not just meant for aspiring performers. Tucker said it can also help students looking for ways to improve their public speaking skills.

Other new offerings include introduction to Mandarin Chinese and math prep for college and careers.

People who want to gain in-demand job skills can take classes in Lewiston Adult Education’s workforce training certificate program. They include welding I and welding II, accounting assistant and certified nursing assistant.

The college transition program is a free class to allow adults interested in pursuing a college degree to prepare for future challenges. Academic and college prerequisite classes will be available for members of the community interested in earning their high school diploma or high school equivalency credential.

English courses for speakers of other languages will also be available. A citizenship preparation course is free for the public.

Other enrichment classes for 2016 include Franco cooking, soft pretzels and a wood-fired pizza class. People with an eye on the springtime can take backyard birding basics and the spring motorcycle class.
