Reading the Sun Journal front page about Gov. Paul LePage’s point made at Bridgton (Jan. 9), I would like to state that I support the governor’s freedom of speech. I state at the same time that I do not always agree with the governor’s statements or his politics.

I also support the freedom of speech for all Maine citizens, whether they agree or disagree with me. I think it is safe to say that freedom of speech is a constitutional right of all citizens and it should be defended by all citizens.

Maine, and American, citizens should oppose the intimidation of any person or group seeking to stifle the freedom of speech of individual citizens or groups. The political correctness segment of society, which seeks to control that freedom, should be opposed by citizens, as well as the liberal and conservative news media.

I hope Americans are up to the still very difficult challenge of our unique and great Constitution.
