MEXICO — The Region 9 Adult Education program is introducing a new vocational class to help adults learn entry-level construction work, according to Director Nancy Allen.

Allen said the course is a National Center for Construction Education Research Building Construction Core Curriculum Certification.

“It’s a 75-hour course that prepares people for entry-level construction work, such as safety, construction math, and proper hand and power tool use,” Allen explained. “Students will also gain a 10-hour OSHA safety certificate.”

The course is being taught by Lloyd Williams, who has 30 years of experience teaching building trades.

Allen added that other industry leaders in the area will visit the class and explain what expectations potential employers have and ways students can be successful when applying for construction jobs.

“To enroll, students must complete reading and math assessments, which can be done at Region 9 Monday through Thursday at 9 a.m., or Tuesday and Wednesday,” Allen said.

The course runs from Feb. 9 to April 7.
