New Beginnings to honor director
LEWISTON — The New Beginnings board of directors will host a reception to celebrate the service of Executive Director Bob Rowe on Thursday, Jan. 28, in the gym at 134 College St.
Supporters are invited to drop in between 4 and 6 p.m. to share a memory with Rowe as he ends his long tenure with New Beginnings.
The directors will make a brief presentation at 5:15 p.m.
Marine Corps League is meeting
LEWISTON — The Marine Corps League, Central Maine, Detachment 810, will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central St.
Any Marines or FMF Corpsman are invited. Members are also looking for anyone who has a love for the Marine Corps and would like to become an associate member.
Tri-Town Penguins to meet
DURHAM — The Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club of Durham, Freeport and Pownal meets on the last Tuesday of each month until April. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 26. New members are welcome.

Church to hold evening prayer
AUBURN — St. Michael’s Church, 78 Pleasant St., will hold an evening prayer in the Celtic Taize tradition at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.
The service is a time of meditation (reflecting) and Oratio (in an atmosphere of prayerful silence). There will also be a reading and discussion at 6 p.m.
Those who plan to attend the reading and discussion are asked to bring soup or bread to share. All are welcome.
Whoopie pie contest at church Jan. 30
LISBON FALLS — Lisbon Falls Church of the Nazarene will hold a Whoopie Pie Contest from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 30, at 184 Main St.
A $2 entry fee gets participants a taste sample of all of the whoopie pies competing and a vote for the favorite. It is open to the public.
The church is accepting recipes to be entered into the competition.
