NORWAY — Growing concern over alcohol and drug abuse as well as obesity rates, diabetes, smoking and a range other health indicators will be the topic of a community forum aimed at helping local hospitals and other health care providers draw up plans for making their communities healthier.
A consortium of Maine’s largest health care providers and the state has released its report card on how Maine is progressing on a host of factors that contribute to overall public health. Now it is up to community health care providers to come up with plans for making improvements in public health based on the data and public input.
Part of that planning process is a series of forums scheduled throughout the state.
These gatherings are meant to give community members a chance to respond to the report card, known as the 2015 Shared Community Health Needs Assessment.
This report is produced every three years and contains data for each Maine county as well as the state as a whole. Maine is unusual in that health care organizations here have banded together along with the state to track health trends and facilitate a dialogue on how to make improvements, something that is required under federal law.
The Maine Shared Health Needs Assessment and Planning Process Project is a collaborative of Central Maine Health Care, Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, MaineGeneral Health, MaineHealth and the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
