BUCKFIELD — Zach Small had a spectacular outing with 24 points as Richmond dispatched Buckfield 49-45 in boys’ basketball on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (8-3) improved their lead each of the first three quarters, and led by 12 early in the fourth quarter.

The Bucks (7-8) picked away at the deficit and trailed by just four with 30 seconds remaining in regulation, but the Bobcats pulled away at the line.

Sophomore forward Zack Grover recorded a team-high 15 points for Buckfield, while Aaron Rowe contributed nine.

Girls’ basketball

Richmond 50, Buckfield 20

BUCKFIELD — Mackenzie Abbott drained a game-high 13 points to lead Richmond to a 50-20 victory over Buckfield in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (9-2) bounced to a 25-9 halftime lead. Caitlin Kendrick contributed 11 points for Richmond. Alyssa Theriault, Alexis Bennett and Emily Swartz scored four points each for the Bucks (5-10).

Poland 54, Waynflete 38

PORTLAND — Nathalie Theriault paced the Poland Knights with 21 points in a 54-38 victory over the Waynflete Flyers in a WMC girls’ basketball contest.

Theriault also had seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Morgan Brousseau contributed 11 points for the Knights (6-8). Poland led 25-15 lead at the half.

Ali Pope led the way for the Flyers with 14 points. Lydia Giguere and Annika Brooks each had seven.

Girls’ hockey

St. Dom’s 12, Brunswick 2

AUBURN — Freshman forward Avery Lutrzykowski scored three goals and registered two assists as St. Dom’s skated past Brunswick, 12-2, in girls’ hockey action on Saturday evening.

The Saints (14-1) scored five unanswered goals in the first period and led 9-0 before the Dragons posted their initial goal in the second.

Cassie Roy scored her first career goal at 6:18 of the third period for St. Dom’s. Forward Tessa Cassidy chalked up both the Dragons’ goals.

Boys’ hockey

Windham/Westbrook 5, Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse 1

GORHAM — Gage Chenard and Zack Callahan each had two goals to lead Windham/Westbrook to the 5-1 victory over the Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse Eagles at USM Ice Arena.

Greg Boutte also had a goal for Windham/Westbrook (8-2). Tyler Lacascio had the Eagles (6-5) lone goal of the contest.

Alex LeBlanc made 24 saves for the victory while Parker Lacey and Cam Charron combined to make 21 saves for the Eagles.

St. Dom’s 2, Thornton 2, OT

AUBURN — Sophomore Gavin Bates scored two goals as St. Dom’s and Thornton Academy skated to a 2-2 overtime tie in boys’ ice hockey action Saturday evening.

Luke Chessie put the Trojans on top in the first and third periods. But, Bates managed to even up the score shortly after each scoring event with one of his own for the Saints (6-5-1).

Men’s basketball

Colby-Sawyer 88, UMaine-Farmington 58

FARMINGTON — Wol Majong charted a game-high 20 points to lead Colby-Sawyer to an 88-58 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in NAC men’s basketball on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Nick Hilton netted a team-high 12 pionts and made 8-of-9 from the foul line for the Beavers (2-13). Ryan Rice added 11 points for Farmington, while Eric Berry of Weld followed with 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Jourdain Bell scored 14 points off the bench, including four 3-pointers, for the Chargers (11-5). Peter Donato and Jake Maynard added 13 points apiece in the winning effort.

Wesleyan 82, Bates 67

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — B.J. Davis scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting to propel Wesleyan to an 82-67 triumph over Bates in men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Mike Boornazian led all Bobcats (9-9) with 19 points, including a dozen from the free-throw line. Malcolm Delpeche added 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Bates never led in the contest. Davis set the tone early with a three for the Cardinals (15-4). Marcus Delpeche and Shawn Strickland both finished in double figures for Bates with 10 points. Strickland delivered a team-high three assists.

CMCC 94, Great Bay 73

AUBURN — Carrington Miller netted a game-high 17 points to pace Central Maine Community College to a 94-73 victory over Great Bay Community College in men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs (15-6) coasted to a comfortable 46-31 halftime lead. Full court defensive pressure from the entire team contained the visiting Herons. CMCC limited Great Bay to only six offensive rebounds in the game.

Jordan White contributed 12 points, while Mark Wiliams and Thomas Cedre of Auburn added 11 points for Central Maine.

Women’s basketball

CMCC 81, Great Bay 27

AUBURN — Five different players scored in double digits as the Central Maine Community college coasted to an 81-27 victory over Great Bay Community College in women’s basketball action Saturday.

Seve Deery-Deraps led the Mustangs (14-7) with 13 points. Allie Ablondi finished with 12. Nicole Hamblin, Taylor Esty and Abby Tilton tallied 11 each.

Ashley Lambert led the Herons with a game-high 16 points.

Mikayla Yanez of Lisbon, Frankie Lally of Auburn and Alex Rowe of Paris played well on defense, making many plays on loose balls to deprive Great Bay.

Junior hockey

Cape Cod 3, L/A 2

FALMOUTH, MASS. — The Cape Cod Islanders scored three times in the third period to defeat the Lewiston/Auburn Fighting Spirit 3-2 in NA3JHL action Saturday afternoon.

Mike Jessman and Chuck Costello each had a goal and assist to lead the Islanders. Costello’s goal was the game winner on the power play with 5:44 left to play in the contest.

Steven Matthews also scored for Cape Cod.

David Fish opened the scoring for the Fighting Spirit in the first period while Simon Corriveau gave L/A the 2-1 lead in the third period on the man advantage before Cape Cod scored the next two goals.

The Fighting Spirit were 1-for-3 on the man advantage while Cape Cod was 1-for-6.

Anton Zemba made 26 saves in the victory while Claes Endre stopped 25 shots in the loss.
