AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced children’s events for February.
The library will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, in observance of Presidents Day.
Sprouts: Saturdays, Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27, from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. in the Children’s Room for a lap-sit program for babies through 36 months and their caregivers. Patrons will gather on the story quilt with Heather for songs, nursery rhymes and dancing, while making new friends.
Sweet Peas: Mondays, Feb. 1, 8, 22 and 29, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the Children’s Room. Join Miss Heather on the story quilt as she leads a lap-sit program for children ages 24-36 months and a parent. They will share stories, songs, rhythm instruments, finger plays and flannel board fun.
Pre-School Story Time: Wednesdays, Feb. 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 10 a.m. in the Maggie Trafton Room for a story program for children ages 3-5. Participants will gather in the Children’s Room, then move to the Maggie Trafton program room.
Homeschoolers’ Meet-Up: Thursdays, Feb. 4, 11, 18, and 23, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Maggie Trafton Room. Join Chrissy Helms to meet other homeschooling families. FMI: Chrissy, 207-212-5101.
KIDS! Read to a Dog: Thursday, Feb. 4, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Maggie Trafton Room. Join Susan Farrell and her dog, Addie. Children will practice their reading skills by reading to Addie. To register, FMI: 207-333-6640, ext.3.
KIDS! LEGO Club: Friday, Feb. 5, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Maggie Trafton Room for kids age 5 and up on the first Friday of every month. The library will provide the space and the LEGOS. Space is somewhat limited, so the program will be run on a first-come, first-served basis. Small pieces present a choking hazard, and the program is not suitable for young children. KIDS! DIY Tweens Make Valentine Poppers and Cards: Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Maggie Trafton Program Room. Kids ages 9-12 are welcome to join Heather and make Valentine poppers and cards in time for Valentine’s Day. All materials for the free program will be provided by the library. KIDS! Chinese New Year Celebration: Saturday, Feb. 13, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. There will be a special celebration of the Chinese New Year with Lily Huang from Wei-Li Restaurant. Learn how to celebrate the Year of the Red Monkey.
KIDS! Comets Meteorites and Asteroids-Messengers from Space: Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Maggie Trafton Room, presented by Jon Wallace. Patrons will find out about the objects and how they are used to learn about other planets, comets and asteroids. They will look at different types of meteorites and examine examples from asteroids, Mars and the moon and learn what they tell about the solar system. They will also look at what can happen to Earth when one of these objects hits the planet. In the end, they will talk about how to start a collection of meteorites. Snow date is 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19.
KIDS! Vacation LEGO Club: Wednesday, Feb. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Maggie Trafton Room. There will be a special vacation version of the monthly LEGO Club for kids age 5 and up. KIDS! Mother Goose Games: Friday, Feb. 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. This will be a special one-time Mother Goose Playgroup for children ages 0 to 6. Activities include Humpty Dumpty’s egg and spoon race, pin the tail on the sheep and Wee Willie Winkie’s pillow case race. No registration is necessary for the free program.
KIDS! Saturday Stories: Saturday, Feb. 20, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. in the Children’s Room. Volunteer story lady Judy D’Amour will lead children in interactive stories, rhymes, songs, creative dramatics and a craft. The program is best for children ages 2 to 6. All are welcome.
DIY Tweens! Squishy Circuits: Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Maggie Trafton Program Room. Kids ages 9-12 are invited to create dynamic play dough sculptures that light up and buzz. The library will supply the material. The kits will remain property of the library, but photos are welcome. Register as supplies are limited.
KIDS! Farmer’s Market: Friday Feb. 26, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Children’s Room. Children may plant some flower seeds to take home.
