If nominated as the Republican candidate for mayor, Wallace H. White Jr. promises to deliver red hot attacks on the Democratic Administration, both from its financial showing and from the record of its police force. Mr. White declined to go into details, last evening, when he attended a meeting of the Alliance Civique, but stated that there would be plenty to say bye and bye, should he get the nomination. “In Mayor Brann’s inaugural address,” said Mr. White, “he said the success of his administration depended on the ability of the city government to adjust the expenditures to the income. Lewiston Urban Renewal Authority entered another phase of its multi-million dollar redevelopment program Tuesday with the purchase of two buildings. The structures were the property of Warren S. Shaw Jr. of Lewiston. The buildings are located at 150 and 152 Middle St. in the city’s first urban renewal project area. One of the buildings is vacant and steps were taken shortly after the sale to have it demolished. Bids are being sought and the building is expected to be leveled within a month. The other building, which houses the Film Shop Laboratory, will remain erect for some time, with the former owner continuing to provide service.

(Photo Caption) Student teacher Lisa Cyr helps Patricia Bolduc and Alyssa Drake make origami cranes at Auburn’s Webster School. Students decided to make 1,000 of the folded paper “peace cranes” to hang throughout the building in recognition of the Persian Gulf war. The idea was taken from the story “Sadko and the Thousand Paper Cranes,” which is based on the life of a Japanese girl who died in 1955 as a result of radiation from the atom bomb dropped by the United States on Hiroshima during World War II.
