CANTON — The Board of Selectmen will meet Monday, Feb. 1, to discuss appointing a new fire chief, Town Administrator Scotty Kilbreth said Thursday.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office.
The 14 members of the all-volunteer Fire Department will be invited to give their input, Kilbreth said.
Fire Chief Shane Gallant submitted his resignation, effective June 30. He has been chief for five years.
Kilbreth said selectmen will “decide if they want to advertise the position in the paper, do it by word-of-mouth or use social media to spread the word.”
In February 2015, the town overwhelmingly defeated a new Fire Department ordinance that would have changed the fire chief position from appointed to elected.
