It seems each year that we veterans, who served our country with pride and honor, are not getting what we were promised, and what we are getting is being taken away, piece by piece.
Does anyone, either a veteran or senior citizen, really believe they don’t need a cost-of-living adjustment to buy food and pay bills?
I have been told that because the cost of gasoline has gone down, veterans and seniors won’t get any COLA to their earned benefits. But many senior citizens and people with a disability don’t drive or even have a car.
Once in awhile, in years past, the government would throw us a bone — a couple percent to keep us quiet — but not this year.
Veterans who served this country with pride and came home blind, or missing arms or legs or some other thing that stopped them from taking care of their families are being told they don’t need a COLA.
Those same elected officials who voted against the COLA gave themselves a raise, and if people knew the benefits they get for life — it’s enough to make anyone sick.
I help many senior citizens who need help and it kills me to see them go without. I have been waiting to hear this brought up by elected officials in Washington, but it seems veterans and seniors aren’t that important.
I am still proud I served my country and I am sure all other veterans are equally proud.
