NORWAY — Hilda “Lila” Butterfield, 89, of Norway passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 29, at Stephens Memorial Hospital after an illness.
She was born at the farm on Island Pond Road in Harrison to John and Hilda Leino, who were of Finnish descent. She was one of a family of 14. She was so proud of her nine brothers who served this country and returned to be honored in 2008 on Channel 13 for their military service.
She loved to call and chat with her sisters, who have that bond that no one can touch.
Hilda fell in love with her childhood sweetheart, Leslie, and they were married Nov. 29, 1947. They moved to Van Nuys, Calif., for a while and then moved back to Maine. She was a diligent worker at different factories in the area, finally retiring with Leslie from C.B. Cummings.
Lila’s faith, her deep love for her family and her humor will always be carried on. She loved gardens, taking many photos, playing harmonica and just sitting with friends and family.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Butterfield of Norway; daughter, Donna Butterfield of Hampton, N.H.; and her grandson, Leslie Traeger of Nashua, N.H.
