Legion to host dance Saturday

PARIS — A dance will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the American Legion Hall, 12 Church St.

Music will be provided by the Jones Dance Band. Cost is $5.

Grange to host international dinner

WILTON — Wilson Grange 321 will host the International Dinner: Kuwait at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12.

The main dish will be Machboos, a spiced rice and chicken dish that is popular in Gulf countries and across Saudi Arabia. The appetizer will be Arabic stuffed grape leaves and dessert will be Kunafa, a traditional Kuwaiti dessert with cheese pastry soaked in sweet sugar-based syrup. Beverages will be included.

Fatma Al Rogom will give a presentation on Kuwait after the dinner.

Cost is ?$12 a person, and there will be a vegetarian option.

Food sale to benefit Legion Auxiliary

BUCKFIELD — A food sale will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Northeast Bank.

Proceeds will benefit American Legion Auxiliary Post 58.

Dance club to host Valentine event

PARIS — The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club has announced its first event in 2016 will be a Valentine Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, in Oxford Hills Middle School cafeteria, 100 Pine St., South Paris.

Walt Bull will call mainstream and plus levels of dancing, and the round dance cuer will be Carol Arsenault, both residents of Maine, well known in square and round dancing circles in New England.

Admission is $7 a person, and nondancers are free. There will be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Refreshments will be served. Hosts/hostesses for the dance will be Richie and Ellen Janerico and Bob and Eleanor Herrick.

Library hosting Confection Election

WILTON — The Wilton Free Public Library will hold its annual Confection Election from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb.12. Those wishing may bring their dessert specialty for the competition or attend to taste the treats.

There will be music and a craft for children. The fee is $5 for adults and $2 for children, which covers all food and drink.

There will be a Junior (15 and younger) and Adult Chef (16 and older) division, so any age can enter. Vote for favorites with spare change, and the dessert with the most change at the end of the night wins.

Farmington Valentine dance

FARMINGTON — Farmington Emblem Club 460 will host a Valentine dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Farmington Elks Lodge. Tickets cost $20 for couples and $10 for singles.

OTISFIELD — An Italian dinner will benefit Otisfield softball on Saturday, Feb. 13. The meal will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Otisfield Community Hall, Route 121.

There will be lasagna, spaghetti, salad, drinks and desserts, as well as a gluten-free option. Donations will be accepted.

PARIS — A Sweetheart Supper and Dance will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Foster-Carroll Post 72, American Legion, 12 Church St., South Paris. The dance is being sponsored by the Auxiliary.

Supper will feature baked ham “with all the fixin’s” and pies. Cost for supper is $8 for adults and $4 for ages 12 and younger.

Dance by the Jones Band will follow from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Cost for the dance is $5.

Roast pork supper at Mexico church

MEXICO — A supper will be served at the Mexico Congregational Church, UCC (the “Green Church”) at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13.

The menu will include roast pork, mashed potatoes and other vegetables, and homemade pies.

Following the meal, those who wish to may participate in an auction of whole pies to take home.

The meal is $8 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Take-out will be available after 5:30 p.m. by calling 207-364-8603. The dining room is wheelchair-accessible.

Valentine potluck dinner planned

PHILLIPS — There will be a community Valentine potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Phillips Community House. All are invited.

Church to hold community luncheon

FARMINGTON — Old South First Congregational Church will serve its monthly free community luncheon at noon Saturday, Feb. 13. The menu will include chicken stew over a biscuit and cake.

RUMFORD — The Rumford American Legion will have a Mexican supper and dance featuring the Roadhouse Band on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Supper will be served from 4 to 7 p.m., and Roadhouse will play from 7 to 11 p.m. Cost for the supper and dance is $13; dance only, $5.

Church plans baked bean, casserole supper

FARMINGTON — A baked bean and casserole supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Library to hold winter book sale

WAYNE — The Cary Memorial Library Winter Book Sale will take place at the Williams House, across from the library, at 14 Old Winthrop Road. It is one of two giant annual sales, with four rooms filled from floor to ceiling with gently used books, DVDs and CDs.

The sale will run multiple days: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13; 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 15; 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16; 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17; 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20.

Books will be sold for $1 a bag on Saturday, the final day of the sale.
