LEWISTON — Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice is looking for volunteers to help cover the needs of patients and families. An evening hospice volunteer training class will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9.

The training is a total of 20 hours covered over a three-week period. Hospice trainings are held in Lewiston, but once active, the volunteer will be matched in their own area.

Hospice volunteers support terminally ill patients in the home setting, nursing facilities and at the Hospice House. Volunteers provide companionship and respite.

Staff is looking for volunteers to fill needs in nursing facilities and to cover weekend shifts at the Hospice House.

The January training class recently concluded, with 13 volunteers now ready to assist the community.

The recent graduates come from different backgrounds, places and age groups. Some have families who have been through the hospice program with AHCH, while others are looking for an opportunity to support the organization.
