PARIS — Asha Doiron has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a fatal accident in Paris on Jan. 31. She is being held at the Oxford County Jail on $20,000 cash bail.

Doiron, 32, of Paris was charged Friday afternoon after she turned herself in at the Oxford County Jail following an arrest warrant being issued.

She made her initial appearance in Oxford County Unified Criminal Court on Monday at 1 p.m.

On Jan. 31, Kevin Wassell, 41, of Buckfield was killed when the car Doiron was driving went out of control while she was negotiating a curve on the Paris Hill Road around 3 p.m.

According to the affidavit of Paris police Detective Richard Belanger, Doiron was driving her 2003 Saturn SUV south on Paris Hill Road at a high rate of speed when “she failed to negotiate the left turn to continue south on Paris Hill Road.”

Her vehicle crossed the centerline, according to the affidavit, and rolled onto its roof into a group of trees.

Doiron and her back-seat passenger, Chad Verrill, were both injured. Wassell, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was killed in the crash.

No one was wearing a seat belt, according to police.

According to the police affidavit in support of the warrant for her arrest, Doiron’s blood alcohol level tested at 0.317 percent after the crash; the legal limit in Maine is 0.08 percent.

Immediately after the crash, Doiron was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston to be treated for her injuries. She stayed overnight and was released Feb. 1.

Verrill was also injured and treated overnight at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, according to police.

Department of Motor Vehicle records indicate Doiron has no convictions or accidents on her record in the past 10 years.

In 2015, Doiron was charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and violating condition of release, both misdemeanors. In a plea deal, the drug charge was dismissed and she was sentenced to 48 hours in jail, with all time suspended, and was fined $500 on the remaining charge.

In addition to manslaughter, Doiron is also charged with violating a condition of release from the 2015 sentencing. The condition is that she not commit any crime.

Doiron is being represented by Norway attorney Maurice Porter.
