RANGELEY — Lynne Carlisle began volunteering with the American Cancer Society after her retirement from a long teaching career. She has dedicated herself to helping cancer patients – and she does that through the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program.
“People impacted by cancer often face many challenges and fears, such as side effects from treatment, emotional distress and paying medical bills,” said Elisa Madore, American Cancer Society program manager for Mission Delivery. “Not having to worry about how to get to their treatment appointments is an amazing gift of your time.”
The society will hold a training class for people interesting in becoming volunteer Road to Recovery drivers in the Rangeley area from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at North Woods Quilting, 346 Wilsons Mills Road, Route 16, Wilsons Mills.
Drivers use their own vehicle to drive patients to and from treatments. The schedule for volunteers is flexible and treatment appointments take place weekdays, primarily during business hours.
Anyone who has a reliable vehicle, current Maine driver’s license, and is insured, is asked to contact Elisa Madore at 207-462-6307 or send an email to [email protected] to sign up for the class.
