AUBURN — A local man was charged with operating under the influence after the car he was driving struck a utility pole on Manley Road on Monday night, police said.

Christopher Burns was taken to a Lewiston hospital after the 11 p.m. crash. The impact snapped a Central Maine Power pole at its base, breaking it in two, police Lt. Scott Watkins said.

No other vehicles were involved.

Workers from CMP repaired the pole and wires.

No other details were available from police.
