WALES — Oak Hill High School has recognized music students Michaela Gervais and Cassandra Lovell for their selection to the High School Honors Performance Series Chorus at Carnegie Hall, New York City.

The series at Carnegie Hall was established to showcase some of the most talented student performers in high school today. Through an individual nomination and selection process, accomplished students are brought together in New York City with peers to comprise the Honors Choir and Honors Instrumental Ensembles.

The honor of participation in the Honors Ensembles is limited to select high school performers. Selected finalists receive the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with and learn from renowned conductors as they prepare for and perform at a  world-class venue – Carnegie Hall.

In a special performance, students perform for New York concert-going patrons, educators and family.

Highlights of the five-day program included a performance in the elite Honors Concert Choir on Feb. 7 at Carnegie Hall, conducted by Dr. Jeffery Ames, director of choral activities at Belmont University; working with master conductors to build a performing resume; rehearsing and interacting with other finalists from across the world; seeing a Broadway show; and visiting the Big Apple’s most famous landmarks.

According to Oak Hill High School Music Director John Neal, Gervais and Lovell are two of the school’s most accomplished young musicians, representing Oak Hill at the MMEA District 3 and All-State Music Festivals and holding lead roles in the school’s musical productions, under the direction of Lucille Rioux.

Neal said, “We are extremely proud that these two exceptional young musicians have been selected to this extraordinary performance group.”
