CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A free family movie, “Minions,” will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Carrabassett Valley Public Library, Begin Family Community Room, 3209 Carrabassett Dr.

Church to host pancake breakfast

AUBURN — A pancake breakfast will take place from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at St. Philip’s Church, Route 4, across from Lake Auburn.

The menu will consist of pancakes, sausage patties, fruit cup, coffee, tea, milk and orange juice.

Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for ages 6-12 and free for 5 and under.

The meal is hosted by family groups of the church.

Longley-Dionne VFW to meet

LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne Post 9150, VFW, will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at the Lewiston Armory, Central Avenue.

Animals to visit library

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The Chewonki Foundation will hold a program on “Animal Adaptations: Survival in the Wild” at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Carrabassett Valley Public Library, Begin Family Community Room, 3209 Carrabassett Dr.

Three live non-releasable animals will be on hand. Reservations are suggested.

Author to speak at library

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Franklin County author and Maine Guide Doug Dunlap will speak and hold a book signing at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Carrabassett Valley Public Library, Begin Family Community Room, 3209 Carrabassett Dr.

Dunlap’s latest book is titled, “Snowshoe and Cross-Country Skiing in the Western Mountains of Maine.”

The 234-page guidebook describes 34 opportunities for foot travel on snow in the regions of Rangeley-Saddleback, Flagstaff-Bigelow, Carrabassett Valley-Sugarloaf, Weld-Tumbledown and the Farmington foothills.

Dunlap has personally snowshoed or skied every trail in the book and provides a first-hand account of trail conditions, expansive views over lake, mountain and valley terrain and wildlife tracks and sightings.

Photographer to be at reception

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A cheese and wine reception celebrating the photography of John Orcutt will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Carrabassett Valley Public Library, Begin Family Community Room, 3209 Carrabassett Dr.

An art talk and slideshow will take place at 5 p.m.

PARIS — A pork roast supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at VFW Post 9787, 58 Main St. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.

Neighbors in Need supper

AUBURN — The fifth annual Neighbors in Need supper will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at West Auburn Congregational Church, 811 West Auburn Road.

Meal consists of ham, casseroles, sides, cake, coffee, tea, milk and punch. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for ages 5-10 and free for children under 5.

The meal will be fully prepared from scratch by members of the church. Take-out will be available.

Garden training in Paris, Lovell

PARIS — Gardeners Growing Healthy Communities is a diverse group of volunteers who love to garden and who believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food.

The group is offering garden training to take a love of gardening and transform communities. The eight-week, indoor training will cover the practical aspects of successful vegetable gardening. The learning will continue as participants work together in the GGHC gardens, growing produce for others throughout the late summer and fall.

The two training sites are: First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 25 to April 21; Charlotte Hobbs Library, 227 Main St., Lovell, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, March 1 to April 26.

Cost is $100, with limited scholarships available.

Scholarship taking applications

AUBURN — The Maine Difference Scholarship is offering four year, renewable $1,000 scholarships to three Maine high school seniors created by Lamey Wellehan.

Applicants must be environmentally and economically concerned students to aid in the quest for a strong state. Students must be planning to attend one of Maine’s colleges or universities and study in fields that promote environmental and economic success and growth.
