Professional boxer Joey Gamache Jr. will visit Central Maine Medical Center on Feb. 14 to help focus public attention on the importance of using seatbelts and car safety seats. Gamache has a special interest in automotive safety. In July his bid for the WBA junior lightweight world championship was foiled when he was injured in an automobile accident. He was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred. Although his injuries were relatively minor, they required the cancellation of his scheduled world championship bout with WBA champion Brian Mitchell. Gamache has won two fights since the accident, but his shot at a world title has been delayed as a result of the accident.
