AUGUSTA — The Maine State Museum and Maine State Library in Augusta will be offering a variety of hands-on activities and games during the February school vacation week, Feb. 16-19. The spotlight will be on the fun and challenge of invention. All activities are open to the public and geared to families of all ages.

Tuesday, Feb. 16, 10 a.m. to noon, and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Maine State Museum: Make a dream machine, take on an Inventor’s Challenge, or play the Path of Invention Game. Free with the price of museum admission.

Wednesday, Feb. 17, 10 a.m., at the Maine State Library: Invent a book with an interactive read-aloud program featuring storytelling, dancing, singing and fun. At the end of story time, everyone will bundle up all that creativity and make a book. This program is designed for children under 5 and their parents or caregivers. Older siblings are welcome. Free.

10 a.m. to noon, and 2 to 4 p.m., at the Maine State Museum: Make a dream machine, take on an Inventor’s Challenge, or play the Path of Invention Game. Free with the price of museum admission.

1 to 3 p.m., at the Maine State Museum: Maine State Library staff come to the museum for an afternoon of creativity. Join them and learn how to: use littleBits components to make a homemade flashlight, or a creation of your choice; build a cell phone docking station with Legos; navigate a robot through an obstacle course using an iPad. Free with the price of museum admission.

Thursday, Feb. 18, 10 a.m. to noon, and 2 to 4 p.m., at the Maine State Museum: Make a dream machine, take on an Inventor’s Challenge, or play the Path of Invention Game. Free with the price of museum admission.
