AUBURN — Androscoggin Historical Society will host an educational program, “Researching Historic Houses,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the society’s museum on the third floor of the County Building.
The talk is by Margaret Gaertner, an architectural historian/historic preservation consultant certified by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. She is a former member of the firm Barba and Wheelock Architects in Portland.
During the program, homeowners in Androscoggin County will learn about local collections sources and how to use and analyze the information one finds to create the whole story of one’s house and its history.
Gaertner has earned a master’s degree in historic preservation at the University of Pennsylvania. She has worked as a consultant for Historic New England, a museum of cultural history that collects buildings, landscapes, and objects for the deeper understanding of New England life.
The program is free, although donations will be accepted. Enter the building at the side door on Court Street and go to the third floor. An elevator is available.
