1936 – 2016
WATERVILLE — Evelyn Clark (Welch) Dutil, 79, of Waterville, formerly of Vassalboro and Winslow, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Feb. 14, at her home.
She was born in Wilton on Aug. 21, 1936, a twin daughter of Raymond L. and Dorothy E. Lloyd Clark. She graduated from Wilton Academy and Pelletier’s School of Beauty Culture, in Lewiston, where she taught beauty culture after graduation. Evelyn was a licensed cosmetologist and was employed at the Grace & Ideal Beauty Salon in Waterville for more than 20 years. She then worked at Wal-Mart as a cashier until her retirement.
Evelyn was at one time a Brownie Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother. She was a member and past president of the Waterville Hairdressers Association and the Maine State Cosmetologist Association, serving as state president for two years. Evelyn was one of the original founders of the Winslow Midget Football Association and served as treasurer for seven years. She was a founder of and volunteered at the Vassalboro Food Pantry in Vassalboro where she was chairwoman of the board of directors. Evelyn was a member of the DAR Fort Halifax chapter. She belonged to the Vassalboro United Methodist Church and was a past president of the women’s group.
Through the years, Evelyn loved attending all sporting events and occasions involving her children and grandchildren. She was extremely Proud of them. She loved to read, knit, crochet, do genealogy and go out to lunch with her friends.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Dorothy E.W. Fogg and her husband, Steven, of Winslow; her son, Mark E. Welch and his wife, Sandra, of Winslow; her stepdaughter, Diane L. Taylor and her husband, Erwin, of Fairfield; five grandchildren, Joshua Fogg and his wife, Amy, of Winslow, Cory Fogg and his wife, Kelsey, of Florida, Bryon Fogg of Winslow, Jacob Welch and his wife, Katherine, of Orrington, and Jill Welch of Waterville; four great-grandchildren, Kadence and Ainsleigh Fogg, Colleen Welch and Leo Fogg; her sister, Sandra C. Harrington of Carver, Mass.; her stepsister, Karen J. Downing of South Paris; her brothers-in-law, Staunton Allen of Wilton, Robert Dutil and his wife, Claire, of Waterville, Albert John Dutil and his wife, Lorraine, of Winslow, and Daniel Dutil and his wife, Therese, of Fairfield; her sisters-in-law, Pat Fernald and her husband, Hartley, of Winslow, and Carol Clark of Augusta; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Evelyn is also survived by her loving companion, Douglas A Fletcher of Wilton and his family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Louis “Pete” D. Dutil; her three brothers, Conrad Hugh Clark, Nelson Barry Clark and Lloyd Scott Clark; her twin sister, Edna C. Allen; and her half-brother, David L. Clark.
