1923 – 2016

LEWISTON — Lily Swallow, 92, of Auburn passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Central Maine Medical Center after a period of failing health, with her family by her side.

Born in Long Eaton, England, on May 3, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James and Theresa (Smith) Cook. She was the wife of the late Carl R. Swallow, who predeceased her on May 18, 2001.

Lily enjoyed knitting, bowling and going out with “the girls.” She was active in both the Oxford and Pomona Granges. She worked many years in her home knitting and crocheting model garments used in instruction books for the Bernat Yarn Company.

Lily especially loved her family, including her grandson and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Hooper and her husband, Jeff, of Turner; her grandson, Brian Hooper and his wife, Kelly, and their children, Emma and Jackson, all of Hartford; brother-in-law, Leonard Swallow; and nieces and nephews of Canada.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Krista Hooper in 1984.

A special thank-you to Sandra, Penny, Rachael and all the “angels” at the Chapman House in Auburn who brought so much joy to her life and provided outstanding care.
